David has also had parallel careers as a journalist, a music producer and composer.

 

Writing as a music and theatre critic, he has interviewed Wynonna Judd, Kenny Rodgers, Alison Krauss, Brad Delp (Boston), Marshall Crenshaw, Tom Hamilton (Aerosmith), Mick Taylor (Rolling Stones),  Gary Rossington (Lynyrd Skynyrd), Yngvie Malesteem, Graham Parker, Tony Levin, Shelby Lynn, John Haitt, Marian McPartland, Bucky Pizzarelli and others, done concert previews, and reviewed countless live shows.

 

David reviewed The Rolling Stones for the lead story on the cover of the Times Union Sunday paper in September 2005, wrote a first person obituary of Rick Danko for the Times Union (1999) as well as stories of his tenure with Shania Twain, and more recently, in the orchestra pit for musical theatre tours.

 

He was also music editor for the short lived Chronogram Albany, had a CD review column for the Daily Freeman in Kingston, as well as had bylines in The TImes Union, Metroland, CMJ and Elmore Magazine.

 

As a producer, David played and produced several tracks on Peter Karp’s Blind Pig Records debut Shadows and Cracks, he has also worked with many others at Bennett Studios in Englewood NJ, the Clubhouse in Rhinebeck, Sound Emporium in Nashville and Allaire Studios in Woodstock,

As a composer, David wrote all but one of the tracks on his solo release The Secret Life of Colonel David, one of which "Newberg," was featured in the indy movie Fairhaven (2012) starring Sarah Paulson and Jim Messina. The song is played as they visit a local bar. He co-wrote (and played guitar) on many of the songs on Genya Ravan's last release Cheesecake Girl (2013).
